What does Android BSP customization include?
Android BSP customization adapts the operating system to a specific board, display, peripheral set and product workflow. A controlled project defines the baseline image, kernel and driver scope, framework changes, application policy, update method and acceptance tests before development starts.
Inputs required before development
| Input | Examples | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Hardware revision | Board version, BOM and pinout | Drivers depend on the exact implementation |
| Display system | Panel model, timing, touch controller and rotation | Defines display and input integration |
| Peripherals | Camera, scanner, printer, serial devices and GPIO | Defines kernel and HAL work |
| Product policy | Kiosk mode, launcher, boot logo and permissions | Defines framework and application behavior |
| Update strategy | Local update, OTA, rollback and signing | Defines lifecycle and recovery requirements |
Which deliverables should be named in the quotation?
State whether the delivery includes a flashable image, update package, release notes, configuration files, API documentation, test report and source-code scope. Also define supported hardware revisions, issue response terms and the number of validation cycles.
How should the BSP be accepted?
Use a written test matrix covering boot and recovery, display and touch, audio, network, USB, serial ports, suspend/resume, watchdog, storage, temperature operation and application-specific peripherals. Record the firmware build identifier and hardware revision in every result.
What reduces BSP project risk?
Freeze the hardware baseline, provide actual peripherals early, separate mandatory requirements from optional changes and approve a reproducible acceptance procedure. Changes after hardware or requirement freeze should be tracked as a new scope.
