This page answers recurring procurement and engineering questions for international Android board projects. It distinguishes board-level technical evidence from finished-product compliance and links to the official-source analyses published by AndroidSBC.
Android board procurement, BSP and compliance questions
What information should an Android board RFQ include?
State the finished application, target SoC performance, memory and storage, displays, touch, cameras, audio, USB, serial and GPIO interfaces, wireless modules, Android or Linux baseline, operating environment, target markets, required evidence, sample quantity and expected volume.
Does a certificate or report for one Android board cover every product in the family?
No. Match each document to the applicant, exact model, PCB revision, radio module, power supply, enclosure, firmware where relevant, standard edition, issue date and market scope. Evidence for one configuration must not automatically be applied to another.
Does an approved wireless module certify the finished device?
No. Module evidence may reduce part of the work, but antenna selection, installation, enclosure, emissions, safety, software and the finished product can introduce additional assessment requirements.
How should buyers verify an Android security patch level?
Check the actual firmware build identifier, displayed patch level, applicable AOSP and chipset fixes, kernel baseline and regression evidence. A date shown in a settings page is not a complete security assessment.
Who is responsible for long-term BSP and security maintenance?
Responsibility must be assigned in the contract among the SoC vendor, board supplier, BSP developer, finished-device manufacturer and operator. Define supported versions, monitoring, integration, testing, release frequency, emergency response and end of support.
Can an existing Android board be upgraded to Android 17?
Only after checking SoC and BSP support, kernel and driver compatibility, boot chain, memory, storage, display behavior, peripherals and application compatibility on the exact board revision.
Does an Android motherboard make a finished EU product compliant with the Cyber Resilience Act?
No. Component documentation may support the finished-product assessment, but CRA scope and obligations depend on the complete product, software, intended use and the responsible economic operator.
What should be prepared for a UK PSTI review?
For an in-scope consumer connectable product, review credential behavior, vulnerability-reporting contact, the declared minimum security-update period, Statement of Compliance responsibilities and retained evidence.
Can a component display the U.S. Cyber Trust Mark?
The voluntary program concerns qualifying finished wireless consumer IoT products. A generic Android board page or component security statement does not establish authorization to use the mark.
What should an Android IoT project prepare for Japan JC-STAR or Singapore CLS?
Identify the finished-product category and target assurance level, then freeze model, firmware and wireless configuration. Maintain evidence for credentials, network services, updates, vulnerability handling, supported period and exact product identity.
What secure-by-design controls should be specified for Australia?
Specify unique provisioning, protected secrets, authenticated updates and recovery, minimized services, secure communications, software integrity, resilience, logging, data handling, vulnerability reporting and lifecycle support.
Can AndroidSBC guarantee regulatory approval for a finished product?
No. AndroidSBC can provide board, BSP and model-specific technical information and support engineering verification. Final scope, testing, declarations, registration and market approval belong to the responsible finished-product business and applicable authorities.
